What to know about the RS Q8 battery

Every RS Q8 is a mild hybrid, which confuses the battery question. There is a 48V lithium-ion pack for the hybrid system and a conventional 12V AGM that runs everything else. When the car will not wake up, it is nearly always the 12V one, and that is a driveway job.

As an S or RS model, the RS Q8 runs bigger cooling fans, pumps and audio than the standard car, so it should get the AGM battery at the upper end of the capacity range, not the cheapest one that fits.

Where is the battery on an Audi RS Q8?

The Q8 shares its platform with the second-generation Q7. The 12V battery is not under the bonnet. Depending on version it is under the luggage floor or under a front seat, so we check your chassis number before coming.

Is the RS Q8 battery the same as the hybrid battery?

No. The 48V mild-hybrid battery is separate and rarely fails. The 12V AGM starter battery is the one that wears out, and replacing it does not involve the high-voltage system.

Can you replace an RS Q8 battery at home?

Yes. It takes about 45 minutes in a driveway or basement, including the test and coding.

Where is the battery in my Audi?

It depends on the model. A3, Q2 and Q3 carry it in the engine bay. A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 and Q5 usually have it under the boot floor. The first Q7 has it under a front seat. Our technician will know before arriving.

Can you come to a basement or tower car park?

Yes. Most of our Dubai jobs are in basements and podium car parks. The technician carries the battery and tools in by hand if the van cannot enter. Tell security a service visit is coming.
