What to know about the A4L battery

A boot-mounted battery lives a cooler life than one beside the engine, so a A4L battery often outlasts those in smaller Audis. The catch is access. When it dies with the boot shut, you jump the car from the posts under the bonnet, not from the battery itself.

The A4L is a long-wheelbase version, mostly built for the Chinese market. Some reach the UAE as private imports. The battery and coding process match the standard-wheelbase car, though we confirm the part against the chassis number.

Where is the battery on an Audi A4L?

On B8 and B9 cars the battery is usually in the luggage compartment under the floor panel, beside the spare wheel well. Older B6 and B7 cars have it under the bonnet near the windscreen. We confirm by model year.

How do I open the boot of my A4L with a dead battery?

Use the metal key blade inside the fob to open the driver's door, then power the car from the jump posts under the bonnet. Once it has power the boot release works. Our technician does this as a matter of routine.

Does the A4L need an AGM battery?

If it has start-stop or a factory AGM label, yes. Most B8.5 and all B9 cars do. Older cars without start-stop can take a quality calcium battery of the right size.

Does an Audi need battery coding after replacement?

Most Audis built from around 2008 do. The car's energy management has to be told a new battery is fitted, with its capacity and type. We do this on site with a diagnostic tool as part of the fitting.

Which battery does my Audi need, AGM or EFB?

If your Audi has start-stop, it needs AGM or EFB, and most larger models need AGM. We check by model, year and the label on the old battery, then fit the same technology or better.
