What to know about the RS4 battery

A boot-mounted battery lives a cooler life than one beside the engine, so a RS4 battery often outlasts those in smaller Audis. The catch is access. When it dies with the boot shut, you jump the car from the posts under the bonnet, not from the battery itself.

As an S or RS model, the RS4 runs bigger cooling fans, pumps and audio than the standard car, so it should get the AGM battery at the upper end of the capacity range, not the cheapest one that fits.

Where is the battery on an Audi RS4?

On B8 and B9 cars the battery is usually in the luggage compartment under the floor panel, beside the spare wheel well. Older B6 and B7 cars have it under the bonnet near the windscreen. We confirm by model year.

How do I open the boot of my RS4 with a dead battery?

Use the metal key blade inside the fob to open the driver's door, then power the car from the jump posts under the bonnet. Once it has power the boot release works. Our technician does this as a matter of routine.

Does the RS4 need an AGM battery?

If it has start-stop or a factory AGM label, yes. Most B8.5 and all B9 cars do. Older cars without start-stop can take a quality calcium battery of the right size.

Where is the battery in my Audi?

It depends on the model. A3, Q2 and Q3 carry it in the engine bay. A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 and Q5 usually have it under the boot floor. The first Q7 has it under a front seat. Our technician will know before arriving.

Can you come to a basement or tower car park?

Yes. Most of our Dubai jobs are in basements and podium car parks. The technician carries the battery and tools in by hand if the van cannot enter. Tell security a service visit is coming.
