What to know about the RS5 battery

Many RS5 owners in the UAE keep the car as a weekend drive. That is the worst pattern for a battery: long idle periods, then short trips. If yours sits for days at a time, the battery will show it before anything else does, usually with start-stop switching itself off.

As an S or RS model, the RS5 runs bigger cooling fans, pumps and audio than the standard car, so it should get the AGM battery at the upper end of the capacity range, not the cheapest one that fits.

My RS5 sits for a week at a time. Is that why the battery died?

It is a likely cause. The car draws a small current while parked. A healthy battery copes for two to three weeks, an older one may not manage five days. A test will show whether it needs replacing or just charging.

Can you change a RS5 battery in a basement car park?

Yes. The battery is in the boot, so we only need space to open the tailgate fully. Basement jobs are routine for us.
