What to know about the RS6 battery

The RS6 carries one of the largest 12V batteries Audi fits, because it has to run air suspension on some versions, a long list of comfort modules and, on newer cars, the mild-hybrid electronics alongside. A battery that is one size too small will start the car and then spend its life undercharged.

As an S or RS model, the RS6 runs bigger cooling fans, pumps and audio than the standard car, so it should get the AGM battery at the upper end of the capacity range, not the cheapest one that fits.

Where is the battery on an Audi RS6?

From the C6 generation onwards the battery sits in the luggage compartment under the floor, near the spare wheel well, held by a metal bracket. Jump posts are under the bonnet.

What size battery does the RS6 take?

Usually an H8 of around 92 to 95 Ah or an H9 of around 105 Ah, both AGM. The exact one depends on engine and equipment, so we match the label on the fitted battery.

Does replacing the 12V battery affect the 48V mild-hybrid system?

No. They are separate batteries. We replace and code the 12V AGM only. If the car shows a mild-hybrid or 48V fault, that is a workshop diagnosis and we will tell you so.

Does an Audi need battery coding after replacement?

Most Audis built from around 2008 do. The car's energy management has to be told a new battery is fitted, with its capacity and type. We do this on site with a diagnostic tool as part of the fitting.

Which battery does my Audi need, AGM or EFB?

If your Audi has start-stop, it needs AGM or EFB, and most larger models need AGM. We check by model, year and the label on the old battery, then fit the same technology or better.
