What to know about the S6 battery

The S6 carries one of the largest 12V batteries Audi fits, because it has to run air suspension on some versions, a long list of comfort modules and, on newer cars, the mild-hybrid electronics alongside. A battery that is one size too small will start the car and then spend its life undercharged.

As an S or RS model, the S6 runs bigger cooling fans, pumps and audio than the standard car, so it should get the AGM battery at the upper end of the capacity range, not the cheapest one that fits.

Where is the battery on an Audi S6?

From the C6 generation onwards the battery sits in the luggage compartment under the floor, near the spare wheel well, held by a metal bracket. Jump posts are under the bonnet.

What size battery does the S6 take?

Usually an H8 of around 92 to 95 Ah or an H9 of around 105 Ah, both AGM. The exact one depends on engine and equipment, so we match the label on the fitted battery.

Does replacing the 12V battery affect the 48V mild-hybrid system?

No. They are separate batteries. We replace and code the 12V AGM only. If the car shows a mild-hybrid or 48V fault, that is a workshop diagnosis and we will tell you so.

Where is the battery in my Audi?

It depends on the model. A3, Q2 and Q3 carry it in the engine bay. A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 and Q5 usually have it under the boot floor. The first Q7 has it under a front seat. Our technician will know before arriving.

Can you come to a basement or tower car park?

Yes. Most of our Dubai jobs are in basements and podium car parks. The technician carries the battery and tools in by hand if the van cannot enter. Tell security a service visit is coming.
