What to know about the SQ8 e-tron battery

An SQ8 e-tron with a full traction battery can still refuse to switch on. The 12V battery powers the locks, screens and the contactors that connect the main pack. When it fails the car looks completely dead. Replacing it is a normal 12V job and does not touch the high-voltage system.

The SQ8 e-tron is fully electric. Everything on this page refers to its 12V battery, the one that wakes the car up. The high-voltage traction battery is a separate system that we do not service.

As an S or RS model, the SQ8 e-tron runs bigger cooling fans, pumps and audio than the standard car, so it should get the AGM battery at the upper end of the capacity range, not the cheapest one that fits.

The e-tron SUV has a 12V AGM battery at the front under the bonnet, separate from the high-voltage pack in the floor.

Does the SQ8 e-tron have a normal car battery?

Yes, a 12V AGM battery at the front. It runs the low-voltage systems and is charged from the main pack. It wears out like any other battery, typically after a few UAE summers.

My SQ8 e-tron will not unlock or switch on. Is it the 12V battery?

That is the most common cause. Use the mechanical key to get in. We can power the 12V system, confirm with a test and replace the battery on site.

How fast can you replace an Audi battery in Dubai?

The nearest van usually reaches you in 20 to 35 minutes in Dubai, a little longer in outer Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Fitting and coding take 25 to 45 minutes depending on where the battery sits in your model.

Does an Audi need battery coding after replacement?

Most Audis built from around 2008 do. The car's energy management has to be told a new battery is fitted, with its capacity and type. We do this on site with a diagnostic tool as part of the fitting.
