On an Audi specifically
Most Audi models have an adjustable multi-link rear axle, so a front-only alignment leaves the job half done. After adjustment, the steering angle sensor should be recalibrated so the stability control reads straight ahead correctly. On cars with adaptive cruise or lane assist, the radar and camera may also need calibration.

How do I know my car needs wheel alignment?
The car pulls to one side on a flat road, the steering wheel is off-centre, or the tyres are wearing on one edge. Have it checked after a hard kerb strike too, even if the car feels normal.
What is the difference between alignment and balancing?
Alignment sets the angles of the wheels relative to the car. Balancing corrects weight in the wheel and tyre itself. A pull to one side is alignment. A vibration at highway speed is usually balancing.
Do I need alignment after new tyres?
It is worth doing. If the old tyres wore unevenly, the same fault will wear the new set. Even with even wear, a check costs little time and protects four new tyres from a geometry problem you cannot see.
How long does wheel alignment take?
Usually around an hour for a car with free adjusters. Seized bolts on older cars, cars with air suspension that must settle at ride height, or sensor calibration afterwards can add time.
